The European Payments Council (EPC) is teaming up with an international trade group of mobile operators, GSMA, to give customers better mobile payments services, it has been reported.
Under the deal, the two organisations will work together to make the deployment of these types of services from banks to customers faster in the single euro payments area (Sepa), according to finextra.com.
EPC chairman, Gerard Hartsink, commented: "We are convinced that this cross industry cooperation between GSMA and EPC is the best way forward for efficiently enabling the mobile as a channel for initiation of payments in Sepa, and this cooperation model could also be a model for other parts of the world."
The EPC and GSMA explained that customers will have one point of contact through a 'trusted service manager'.
